Daniel W. Crye, age 69, of Hayward, WI and formerly of Springbrook, WI passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at his home.
Daniel Wayne Crye was born October 27, 1949 in Exeland, WI the son of Clayton and Cherrie (Banks) Crye. While Daniel was growing up, he attended school in Ingram, WI, Glen Flora, WI and then Hayward, WI. After school Daniel joined the U.S. Army on November 27, 1970. Dan served in Vietnam where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Sharpshooter Badge. He was a tank drive during the war. Dan was honorably discharged and returned to Wisconsin where he attended technical school to become a machinist. He began work as a machinist for Chrysler Outboard in Hartford, WI. Dan had to leave his work due to complications from his injuries he received during his military service. He moved to Springbrook, WI where he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post #10568. He enjoyed doing activites with the VFW Post and the Episcopal Church he was a member of. Dan enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers.
Dan is survived by his siblings, Keith (Karen) Crye of Hartford, WI, Christina (Emil) Garcia of Chicago, IL, Betty Hoppman of Edgerton, WI; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Ernie Watkins; sister, Alma Kruger; and brother, Gary Crye.
A memorial service will be held for Daniel at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 13th, at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Hayward with Father Dave Bauer officiating. A time of gathering will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Military honors will be accorded by the Wisconsin Military Funeral Honors Program and the Springbrook VFW Post# 10568 after the service at the church. Following military honors, a celebration of life will be held at TNT’s Sports Bar and Grill in Hayward. Interment will be at a later time in St. Luke’s Cemetery in Springbrook, WI.
