John Howe Obituary

John C. Howe, age 88, of Winter, WI passed away on Thursday, July 4th, 2019 in Winter, WI.

John Charles Howe was born July 26, 1930 in Chicago, IL the son of Thomas and Hannah (Bockelman) Howe.  John was raised and attended school in Chicago, IL.  He drove truck for a short time for Dutch Mills Candy and there he met the love of his life, Arlene Julia Westfallen.  On August 18, 1951, John and Arlene were joined in marriage in Chicago.  John joined the U.S. Army on October 11, 1951 and served during the Korean War.  He received the National Defense Service Medal for his time in service and was honorably discharged on September 25, 1953.  John returned to Chicago and began work as a plumber.  Throughout his 44 years of plumbing he worked for several different contractors and was a member of the Plumbers Local Union #130.  Upon John’s retirement in 1993 he and Arlene moved to Winter, WI where John had vacationed and visited on numerous occasions.  John enjoyed being with his family, fishing, hunting, spending time in the woods, clearing brush and gardening.  He was a member of LCO AmVets Post #1998 and their honor guard.  John volunteered bringing blankets and other items to local veterans who were in care at hospitals and nursing homes.  He was also a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Winter. 

John is survived by his four children, Diana (Ted) Thompson of Park Falls, WI, John (Laurine) Howe of Kenosha, WI, Charles Howe of Winter, WI, Michael (Bobbie Jean) Howe of Winter, WI; three grandchildren, Heather, Matthew, and Kristin; five great grandchildren; one brother, Robert Howe of Chicago, IL and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arlene and one brother, Thomas Howe.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for John at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Winter.  A time of gathering with family and friends will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church.  Military honors will be accorded by the State of Wisconsin Military Funeral Honors Program and LCO AmVets Post #1998.  Interment will be in the St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in Winter.
