Marjorie Kathleen "Marge" (Severson) Korthof

Marjorie (Marge) Kathleen (Severson) Korthof, age 93, of Springbrook, Wisconsin, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2019, at Spooner Health System.

Marge was born on September 16, 1926, in Prairie Farm, Wisconsin, to Ingwal and Tena (Swergen) Severson.  On October 12, 1946, she married Donald Korthof at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spooner.  Together they had five children.  They remained married for 71+ years until the time of Donald’s death in 2017. 

Marge was a loving, thoughtful, kind-hearted person whose greatest love was being a mother. She felt that was her most important role in life.  She was supportive in all areas of her children’s lives and listened attentively to their cares and worries, ending each conversation with, “Everything will be o.k., I’m sure of that!”

Marge was talented in so many ways. She could sew clothes without a pattern and raised big, bountiful vegetable and flower gardens each year.  She loved cooking and baking and enjoyed preparing special meals for those she loved. Marge also had a great love for animals. She loved to ride horses and started when she was very young.  So young in fact, that in order to put the bridle on the horse, she would have to climb on the hay rack. Marge also loved dogs and cared for many throughout the years.  One of her favorite memories was of her and the kids sledding with the family dog.

Marge is survived by her children:  Jennifer Groat of Hayward, WI; Steve (Fran) Korthof of Waukesha, WI; Kim (John) Gunn of Mesa, AZ; Bruce (Melanie) Korthof of Marshfield, WI; and Scott (Ann) Korthof of Spooner; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and her sister Hazel Green of Shell Lake, WI.

Marge was preceded in death by her husband Donald, her brother Art Severson, and her son-in-law Lyman Groat.

A memorial service will be held in the Summer of 2020.
