Donald Kallberg Obituary

Donald F. Kallberg, age 91, of Superior, WI, passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2020 at Middle River Health & Rehabilitation Center in South Range, WI. 

Donald Fredrick Kallberg was born May 31, 1929 in Duluth, MN the son of Einer and Lela (Mc Enelly) Kallberg.  Don was raised in Duluth and graduated from Central High School in 1946 and was honored with being offered a scholarship to Northwestern University in Illinois.  Don chose to work instead of continuing his education and then joined the U.S. Air Force on April 2, 1951.  On April 18, 1952 Don was joined in marriage to Delores Elaine Tingstad in Duluth, MN.  Don was stationed in Montgomery, AL at the Maxwell Air Force Base and was honorably discharged there on November 19, 1953.  He served during the Korean War and earned the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.  Don and Delores returned to Duluth where Don attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting in 1962.  He also joined the Air National Guard during those years and continued to serve his country.  After college Don began work as an auditor for the Wisconsin Department of Revenue at their office in Madison, WI.  He spent three years in Madison before taking a field auditor position with the department of Revenue and moving to Superior, WI.  Don would work for the department until his retirement in 1986.  He was then stationed in Ramstein, Germany with the Air National Guard and then was honorably discharged from the guard in 1988.  Don served on the Superior School District School Board, Douglas County Town Board, and the Superior Township Board as Treasurer.  He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Pattison Park Bushwackers Golf League.  He enjoyed traveling with Delores to Hawaii and Europe.  He was a member of Hawthorne Assembly of God church and volunteered with the Salvation Army.  Don was a hard working man who lived by his Christian principles. 

Don is survived by his wife of 68 years, Delores; six children, Donald Samuel (Beth) Kallberg of Netherlands; Susan (Brad) Moore-Johnson of Savage, MN, Daniel Kallberg of Lake Nebagamon, WI, David (Bonnie) Kallberg of Superior, WI, Joel (Esther) Kallberg of Gilbert, MN, and Judy (Darryl) Kallberg-Pitcher of Milwaukee, WI; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; two sister, Joanne Carlson, Janis Goude; five brothers, Chuck, Daniel, Gene, Mark, and Clint Kallberg; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Roger, James and Duane Kallberg.

A memorial service celebrating Donald’s life will be held at noon on Friday, July 10, 2020 at Hawthorne Assembly of God Church.  A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Friday, July 10th.  Military honors will be accorded by the State of Wisconsin Military Funeral Honors Program.  Interment will be at Northern Wisconsin Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Spooner, WI.
