George Edward Rogers, passed away on September 7, 2022.
George was born on June 11, 1927, to Fred and Mary Rogers in Cable, Wisconsin.
George was a proud WWII Marine and retired sheet metal worker. He was kind and loyal to his family and friends, and was so sensitive and loved so deeply that he could cry at the drop of a hat, such as at a favorite niece’s wedding, introducing another favorite niece as his “other daughter”, getting hugs saying goodbye after a visit with family, including the great-grandchildren he loved dearly, hearing someone say they love him, or as another favorite niece says “hey handsome”. Dad loved nature, and hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his son, Garrett (Sharon) and daughter, Deborah (Maurice Schultz); five grandchildren, Christopher, Derrick (Elana), Bryce (Kendra), Natasha, and Jared; five great-grandchildren, Charlie, Estelle, Calvin, Peter, and Lorelei; sisters, Barbara, and Frances (Ronald); and numerous other relatives.
In addition to the family above, he is survived by his best friend Ray, who provided so much friendship and assistance that George was able to live alone in his home almost to the end of his long life. He appreciated everyone who helped him in his declining days, including kind words and prayers and strawberries from friends at Mama Jo’s Diner in Minong and Tommy’s Too High Winery in Danbury (and yes, he kept up his commitment to celebrate at Tommy’s on his 95th birthday).
George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Stella; his parents, Fred, and Mary; his brother, Fred; and his sisters, Margaret, and Leona.
A rosary service is scheduled on Wednesday, September 14, at 9:30 A.M., followed by visitation at 10:00 A.M. and a funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gordon, Wisconsin. Interment will be at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner Wisconsin.
